Two toxic chemicals, fenthion and dimethoate, nerve inhibiting pesticides used in Australian food production, are under review and are to be phased out. Now, 15 years on, as the phasing out begins, the government and industry are urgently pushing for another dubious post-harvest decontamination treatment to be used in their place: food irradiation.
